A Willing Heart
A Willing Heart
Right after the clock struck midnight on New Year’s, I was in a group message with one of my
best friends from childhood. She was thanking me and another friend for being a blessing in her
life. In turn, we expressed our gratitude as well. As the conversation continued, we briefly
reflected on the things God has done and the ways He has transformed us over the years. At
that moment, I was reminded of what God can do with a willing heart.
At one time, all of us were broken. Yet we have each received Jesus’ love, faithfulness, and
mercy. Now, we are open and willing to whatever the Lord has for us.
“A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
~ Psalm 51:17
It also made me reflect personally, because a good portion of what I do, including writing for this
blog, is completely outside of my comfort zone and not something I would naturally be “willing”
to do.
Thankfully, God doesn’t care about comfort. He cares about who is willing, who He can use for
His glory. And that is big.
“For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not
according to what one does not have.”
~ 2 Corinthians 8:12
When I think about the most prominent figures in the Bible, both men and women, none of them
had any idea how the Lord would use them. They didn’t have all the answers or a clear plan, but
they were willing. Ruth. Esther. Noah. Isaiah. Moses. The Disciples. The Apostles. The list is
long, but the point is the same: they were willing, and God used them in powerful and important
ways. So much so that entire books of the Bible are written about them or by them.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for
us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
~ Isaiah 6:8
So what does that have to do with you?
You may think your life is small or insignificant, but God doesn’t see it that way. He created you
and, every one of us, with a specific purpose, on purpose, for His glory. You might feel like you
have nothing to offer or that your gift is meaningless, but it could very well be the very thing God
wants to use in this season.
So today, my encouragement is simple: be willing. Keep your heart open to the Lord, and watch
how He can use you.
