Praising God This Lent: His Kindness, Compassion, and Praiseworthy Deeds

praise

During this Lent season, I'm trying—really trying—to keep my eyes on what lasts forever. Life gets busy, distractions pop up everywhere, and it's easy to let my mind wander to temporary stuff: work stress, family chaos, or just chasing after what comforts me. But God keeps gently pulling me back, reminding me He's the One worthy of all my praise.

I love this verse from Isaiah 63:7: "I will tell of the kindness of the LORD, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us—yes, the many good things He has done for the house of Israel, according to His compassion and many kindnesses."

It's like the writer is saying, "Hey, let's not forget—let's actually talk about how good God has been!" That's what I'm aiming for this Lent: intentional gratitude instead of autopilot.

Our God is so praiseworthy. He deserves our awe. Jesus didn't have to, but He chose to step in and save us—from sin, from death, from our own messed-up choices—by taking the punishment we earned on the cross. When I think about that, especially on days when I feel unworthy or overwhelmed, it hits me fresh: grace isn't fair, it's better than fair.

"Who among the gods is like you, O LORD? Who is like you—majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working in wonders?" (Exodus 15:11)

Moses and Miriam sang this after God dramatically rescued the Israelites from centuries of slavery in Egypt. Can you imagine the relief? The joy? After all those years of crying out, God showed up in power.

"The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!" (Psalm 18:46)

David wrote this kind of praise while running for his life—Saul was literally hunting him down. Even in the wilderness, hiding in caves, David kept turning his fear into worship. That encourages me on my tougher days.

And then there's this one that always tugs at my heart: "We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, His power and the wonders He has done." (Psalm 78:4)

Don't let the amazing things God has done in your life stay hidden. Don't take them for granted. Tell your story—out loud to friends, written in a journal, shared over coffee, or even posted here. Our kids, our friends, the next generation need to hear that the same mighty, living God who parted seas and raised Jesus from the dead is still saving people today. He's still kind. He's still at work.

For me personally, one thing God did recently was provide for me and guide me in some health issues that needed to be taken care of. It wasn't flashy, but it was real, and it deepened my trust.

What about you? What amazing things has God done for you—big or small? I'd love to hear in the comments. Sharing our stories builds each other up and keeps the praise going.

Let's use this Lent to remember, celebrate, and tell. Our God is worthy!
