Listening to God
Listening to the Voice of God
As the month of February comes to a close I’m sure lots of us have been bombarded lately with events in our world that have left us discouraged and saddened. These events have led me to meditate on scripture. Specifically, scripture that has to do with listening to the voice of God and why it’s so important. If we as Christians don’t know His voice then we’re bound to listen to the wrong ones. I’m sure that’s not what any true believer wants. Personally, I want to hear God's voice and positively know that it is His that I’m listening to. I never want to be led astray listening to an imposter. There are times when I’m prompted by His voice to do something, say something or I’ll hear a word meant for my own spiritual discernment. I know immediately it’s His voice because it aligns with who Jesus is and with what His word says. Other times I have to ask myself if what I’m hearing lines up with the character of God and more importantly His Word.
Though some of us might struggle to know when it’s God’s voice just remember that the more time spent with the Lord in prayer, reading His word and following Him, the more you’ll grow to know the sound of His voice. It’s just like any other relationship we have, the more we communicate with a loved one or a new friend we begin to recognize their voice without them ever having to identify themselves.
So friends, in a fallen world that is buzzing with voices all around us that cause chaos, confusion and doubt we can know and trust that the Lord doesn’t operate in those things. I encourage you today to spend time with Him in prayer, meditating on His word and following Him. The world will lead you astray but we know through His word that when we listen to Jesus’ voice and follow Him, He gives us eternal life and no one (not even the greatest deceiver) can snatch us out of His hand. Because, our Heavenly Father is greater than all.
John 10:27-30
" My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
