Post-Holiday Reset: From Materialism to Seeking Spiritual Bread
Post Holiday Reset: From Materialism to Seeking Spiritual Bread
It is post Holiday season and we have just wrapped up another year of consumerism and lots of food and goodies. We are now headed towards the season of false promises of diets and workouts to shed the extra pounds gained during this process. We do it year after year.
It is during this time that my husband said something profound to me in random conversation.
“Daily Bread: we need to ask Him for not only our financial and physical needs, but for our spiritual needs as well. “
“Should not be to fill pockets to buy things to feel good or look good that's living in the flesh. Egocentric “
These are the words I decided to make a note of because I heard wisdom. And yet I know that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and we cannot recognize or speak such things without the Spirit of God.
In a society full of give me more and more, and as we are racking up our credit cards and more debt as well as eating more than we truly do need… This was a huge check for me.. a check to check out from what society is doing and following along with, this tradition of materialism.. and instead focusing on Christ during this time. For He is the reason for everything. He IS everything!
Reset. Put our eyes on Jesus and surrender to His Will above all else. For it is through surrender that we taste and see that the Lord is good! He is our Provider. He is our Savior. He is the Kings of Kings. And not only do we come to him through our personal relationship asking for our provisions, but we also ask… Lord, what can I do for You and can you please give me the strength and wisdom to carry it through? This is where we come to him, asking for our spiritual needs. Wisdom. Strength. And to be led by the Spirit in step so as to live according to His will as there is no better way. After all, a healthy loving relationship isn’t one sided.
Lord, you are my provider and I thank you for providing for me, but what can we do for you as well my Father? How can we serve more? Love more? Forgive. Surrender more. I now know that we’re not only to ask Him for our provisions and He does provide, but we can also ask Him for our spiritual needs in areas we may be lacking, so that in turn we can use it to serve Him for His Glory.
Now THIS is truly the Gift of the Season. His Salvation given to us, and may we in turn surrender our lives in Worship to Him on a daily basis, for He is our Wonderful Counselor.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 NIV “
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
